When you compare tire quotes from overseas factories, the price per tire only tells part of the story. What matters is the landed cost — what each tire costs once it is in your warehouse. The first thing to check is the Incoterm on the quote: EXW, FOB, CIF or a delivered price.
What the common price terms include
| Term | Seller covers | Buyer covers |
|---|---|---|
| EXW (Ex Works) | Tires ready at the factory | Pickup, export clearance, inland freight, ocean freight, insurance, import duties and delivery |
| FOB (Free on Board) | Tires loaded on the ship at the origin port | Ocean freight, insurance, import duties and delivery |
| CIF (Cost, Insurance & Freight) | Ocean freight and insurance to your port | Import duties, port fees and delivery |
| DAP / DDP (delivered) | Delivery to your door (DDP also includes duties) | Unloading (and duties under DAP) |
SEHA’s North America price lists are quoted EXW Türkiye in USD, and we can quote delivered-to-port pricing on request. See the dealer program for details.
The pieces of landed cost
- Product cost — the price per tire times quantity.
- Origin costs — trucking from the factory to the port, export customs clearance and port handling in Türkiye.
- Ocean freight — usually quoted per 40′ container to a U.S. or Canadian port.
- Cargo insurance.
- Import duties and tariffs — set by the tire’s HTS classification and current trade measures. Rates differ between passenger, truck, agricultural and industrial tires, so check them with your customs broker before you order.
- Customs and port fees — such as customs broker fees and U.S. merchandise processing and harbor maintenance fees.
- Drayage — trucking the container from the port to your warehouse.
Divide by the container count
Because freight and fees are charged per container, the more tires you fit in a container, the lower your landed cost per tire. That’s why pieces-per-container data matters. Every SEHA product page — for example the KNK40 forklift tire and the AGRO10 radial tractor tire — lists how many pieces fit in a 40′ HC. Our guide on planning a mixed container shows how to use those numbers.
Compliance checks before you buy
- Highway tires sold in the U.S. (passenger and light truck) must carry DOT markings and meet federal safety standards. Confirm the markings with your supplier before ordering.
- Documents — make sure you receive a commercial invoice, packing list and certificate of origin for customs clearance.
